My name is Marco Jordiansyah Suwanto. I am from Indonesia. I would like to tell you a story about my experience after graduating as Bachelor of Informatics from Information and Multimedia Technology Universitas Ciputra Surabaya until receiving the best academic achievement as Master of Science in Big Data Management and Analytics at Griffith College Dublin Ireland Graduation 2021.
At first, I really wanted to study abroad since high school. I would like to make my family and Indonesia proud of me that I can shine abroad. Also, I want to know more people globally because I think that would be interesting.
Therefore, the first thing that I did after graduating from Universitas Ciputra Surabaya is learning English because I was not good at speaking in English. Also, I am a shy person who does not like to talk to people. However, I had to talk to people so I can learn to speak in English better. Luckily, I got help from my family, friends, and private english teacher. They personally wanted to help me to talk in English better by doing conversation everyday. Eventually, I passed my IELTS test and went to study abroad at Griffith College Dublin, Ireland.
In Ireland, I felt alone at first because I had no friends or family there. Even I felt difficult to follow my classes because the lecturers were talking very fast. So, I often ask questions after class until the lecturers remember my face and probably my classmates get bored with my face. Unfortunately, we had online classes mostly. Beside asking questions, I always get my assignments finish as soon as possible. In addition, I often learn and practice my class materials in my spare time until I could understand them. I did it many times because I had many spare times during my master’s study in Ireland due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
My classmates and friends in Ireland actually very friendly. I am very happy that I could know many people from around the world such as India, US, France, Germany, Spain, South Korea, etc. They helped me to speak English better. It was really a fun experience to know these people. My lecturers were very kind. They answered my questions eagerly and patiently until I could understand. Eventually, I was able to finish my study and graduate with the best academic achievement.
In conclusion, I would say that it is important to be a person who is always curious. For example, always asking questions to lecturer about next week’s lesson and so onward. Secondly, be a person who is always willing to learn more than what it should be. For example, if the lecturer told us to learn and practice a handbook from page 1 to 5, then we have to learn from page 1 to 10. Hence, we are one step ahead from others. Lastly, be a person who is always willing to accept criticism from others and don’t force your will on
